Is the fast method really fast?
I have never done anything of the popular square in the square quilting block. Itwas ahight time to try it. So I made this colorful quilt:
I was fascinated by the way this block was sewn on this video on You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3MXxJnZitA I wanted to try it because it was so different. And it seemed to be very fast. Well, it only seemed that...
It turned out to be not so fast. Yes, compared to the traditional method of sewing that block, this method has a huge advantage : it's faster to sew because you don't have to add and sew every triangle to the central square.
But also a few drawbacks: you have to use scissors, not a rotary cuter and the corners of the squares are lost (which doesn't really bother me).
But for me, cutting with scissors turned out to be terrible. Not just because I'm used to a rotary cutter. It just took a lot of time to cut everything.

All done, I came out to the conclusion that next time I would use the traditional method.
And then - of course after piecing the whole top - I discovered this:
I was so unhappy that I hadn't discovered it before ! And thanks to this idea, this method is really fast. I made a trial block and it was really very fast to do it !
