Carrefour Europeen du Patchwork
Le Carrefour Europeen du Patchwork in Alsace is an annual prestigious quilt exhibition. I was there this year - for the first time. And it was really worth of it. No big exhibition halls, only churches, a theater, a villa, a small sport hall, an old bank ... In the four villages of Val d'Argent in Alsace - colorful villages, vineyards. This exhibition can not be described in one post, so there will be several - the first one is about my te contest "Trip to the end of the world."
38 works. Mainly art quilt, thread embroidery, mix media. And different backgrounds: space, arctic ice, desert, mines (Val d'Argent is full of old mines), sea and abstractions - some of them very abstract indeed. Sometimes it was really impossible for me to guess what the artist thought and what the jury thought by qualifying the work as being in line with the theme of the contest. But there was also one work which made me smile instantly without any thoughts :
All quilts can be viewed here. Here are some works and fragments of them that I especially liked. Plus a few others not entered into the contest but in the same spirit:

It was interesting to see the different structures in close proximity:

And this quilt below brings to mind the fragment of the famous Matthias Grunewald altar from the nearby Isenhaim:
And for the end - this funny quilt :)
